Peco TTC024A - TT:120 7 Plank Open Wagon, Continental Coal & Steamship Co., - Grandad's Train Shop Special Edition

The Continental Coal & Steamship Company is likely referring to the British & Continental Steamship Company Ltd, which was incorporated in 1906 and dissolved in 2012.  The company operated steamships, initially taking over the trade routs of the failed Goole Steam Shipping Company, which had serviced West Continental ports.  The company's history is intertwined with the St. George Steam Packet Co. and later with the Cork Steam Ship Company, which it took over after World War1.

Incorporation and Dissolution:

The British & Continental Steamship Company Limited was incorporated on 11th January 1906 and dissolved on 20th November 2012.

Origins:

The company's origins can be traced back to the St. George Steam Packet Co., which owned the Sirius, the first steamer to cross the Atlantic without using sails.

Goole Steam Shipping Company:

The company took over the trade routes previously operated by the Goole Steam Shipping Company, which had served West Continental ports like Antwerp, Rotterdam, Ghent and Dunkirk.

Cork Steam Ship Company:

The company also acquired assets of the Cork Steam Ship Company, which was wound down in the 1920's.

Early Operations:

The company's initial focus was on continuing and expanding the existing trade routs between Goole and West Continental ports.

Later Operations:

The company also expanded into passenger services and other trade routes, including those to South Africa and South America.
