The Ford Capri Mk III, assembled at the German Ford plant in Cologne, was first launched in 1976 at the Geneva Motor Show but it would be 1978 before it became available to purchase. This version is registered HMV 801T from 1979 and carries all the innovative features of the upgraded Mk II version. New were the black slatted grille and four quad headlamps while to the rear, ‘saw tooth’ rear lights were added. The sporty spoiler was another new feature added to improve the aerodynamics, in turn leading to improved economy and performance. The bonnet’s leading edged sloped down towards the headlamps enhancing the racy image. The Mk III was manufactured until 1986.
Painted in a brilliant bright blue with pale ivory interior seating and black dashboard/steering wheel, the exterior body trim is essentially black including bumpers, door handles, grille and the wheels feature a silver finish. The rear of the vehicle features the Capri 1.6 GL marque while the blue Ford badge is printed in blue in the centre of the radiator grille.
The Capri was also a popular Police vehicle and even in its last year or production, a fleet of Capri Mk III 2.8 injection models were delivered to Greater Manchester Police. They saw service in the Force right up until 1992.
